People & participation

Involve’s People & participation programme examines how to reconnect the public with politicians, decision-makers and political institutions. We take a three-pronged approach:

Top-down

We support formal political institutions – such as the UK’s Parliaments, mayors and local councils – on all aspects of their public engagement. Our work includes supporting project planning and delivery, providing training and developing toolkits. See an example, or find out more about what we do.

Bottom-up

We develop and deliver projects that give people a voice in decisions that affect their lives. We work particularly with groups who are often marginalised on the issues they care about most. See an example.

Building the evidence base

We use research and engagement to explore the key issues that underpin our work. For example, we examine why people start, continue and stop participating. We also ask people directly about how democracy should work.
