The Guardian marked the closure of the government’s “Spending Challenge” consultation yesterday, reporting the submission of almost 45,000 ideas. Asked to comment, Involve’s Director Simon Burall explains how this form of consultation can be done well when information is clearly distributed among the target population, and that for legitimacy to hold, the government needs to be open with the public about why and how they are using this form of consultation.
