Keynote speaker: Hazel Blears, Secretary of State

The event took place on 6th May 2009 at Mary Ward House, Tavistock Place, London WC1  

Hazel spoke on questions such as: How should we see citizen empowerment in today's trouble economic situation? An expensive luxury? Or a vital tool to enable local government and local people to work together towards economic renewal?

This half day workshop was hosted jointly by CLG, Involve and LGIU and brought together a high level local government audience to consider the role of citizen empowerment in the context of the current economic downturn.

The event will be followed by a written report for wider dissemination and sharing of best practice.

The workshop was designed for high level local government officers and members with an interest in citizen empowerment or economic renewal who wanted to understand more about how these two priorities relate.
