Involve Seminar Series - “Polling – an easy substitute for real political involvement?”
"Polling - an easy substitute for real political involvement?"
A discussion with Peter Kellner (President of YouGov) chaired by Involve's Simon Burall
Peter tackled this issue and broadened it to discuss the respective merits of direct and representative democracy.
Peter Kellner has been President of the pioneering online survey research company, YouGov since April 2007.A discussion with Peter Kellner (President of YouGov) chaired by Involve's Richard Wilson Peter will be tackling issues surrounding political involvement and how current processes potentially detract from really giving people a say. Issues to be discussed surround feelings of disconnectedness because voting once every four or five years does not feel like real engagement, and that asking people set questions in focus groups or polling is often seen as a poor substitute for real democratic processes. Peter will broaden these issues to discuss the respective merits of direct and representative democracy.
