Participation, Cohesion and Empowerment - Examining the Link

28 February 2008, London

Involve, in partnership with the National Empowerment Partnership (NEP), hosted a day of discussion to explore the relationship between public participation, community cohesion and empowerment. The workshop formed part of a study that sought to build a greater understanding and promotion of the relationship between local-level public participation, community cohesion and empowerment. The aim of the project was twofold:

-To examine the claim that public participation leads to more empowered and cohesive communities

-To produce practical guidance that will help organisations working with public participation activities generate the maximum social benefits from their work.
