Involve Seminar Series - After engagement: where next for science in society?
'After engagement: where next for science in society?'
An invited discussion with James Wilsdon chaired by Involve's Richard Wilson.
Five years on from the publication of the Demos pamphlet ‘See-through Science', which made the case for upstream public engagement, James Wilsdon, Director of the Royal Society's Science Policy Centre, reflected on the extent to which the science in society agenda has entered the mainstream of UK science policy. He asked, what progress has been made, and what obstacles persist? How much closer are we to the vision of the 2000 House of Lords report, which called for reflection and dialogue on social and ethical issues to become a ‘normal and integral part' of the scientific process?
