Involve submitted evidence to the Public Administration Select Committee’s inquiry on “Whitehall’s capacity to address future challenges”.

In our submission we make the case that it will be essential to involve citizens and other stakeholders in identifying and meeting societal challenges, but that the civil service is not yet well prepared for the open and collaborative ways of working that this will entail.

Many of the challenges the UK faces will require difficult trade-offs to be made and concerted effort from different societal actors to address them. Involving citizens and stakeholders will be necessary to not only identify publicly acceptable courses of action, but also to engage citizens and stakeholders in collaboratively addressing the challenges.
