We are recruiting for new Trustees

By Sophie Blake

Sophie is Project Support Officer at Involve, working principally on NHS Citizen. She believes that all citizens should be able to play an active role in the decisions and processes that affect them.

Fed up with the state of democracy in the UK? Are you interested in making a difference? If so, here’s a golden opportunity.

Involve are looking for new Trustees to join our brilliant Board of Directors. Involve is the UK’s leading authority on public participation. We develop opportunities for engagement, collaboration and accountability that work for both citizens and organisations. You can find out more about Involve, who we are and what we do, on our website.

The role? You will take part in our quarterly Board meetings. We would also like to encourage you to get involved with one of our Board sub committees (we have two: one on HR & Governance and one on Audit & Finance). We have an annual away day with Trustees and we occasionally ask our Trustees for ad-hoc advice or challenge. The role is unpaid, although we will cover your expenses.

Please take a look at the Trustee job description for more details about the role. You can download it here.

Who are we looking for? We are looking to broaden the diversity of voices on our Board to reflect the diversity of the country, particularly in terms of gender and ethnicity. We now have an office in Scotland and we are also looking for at least one Trustee who understands the public and government sectors in Scotland.  We are also particularly looking for skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Communications
  • Business development and Trust fundraising
  • Perspectives from the institutional side of efforts to deliver more participatory, accountable and transparent decision-making, particularly in:
    • Central government
    • Local government
    • The health and care sectors
    • Other public services
  • People management / HR

We are looking for individuals who will use their broad networks to promote Involve, its work and charitable aims.

How to apply

To apply, please send a short statement of interest and CV to by mid-day Wednesday 16th November 2016.  Please mark your email as ‘Trustee application’.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview with the Chair of the Board and Involve’s Director. Interviews will be held on Thursday 1st December 2016, at the Involve offices in London.
