Involve is a small and dynamic charity with a track record of impact and innovation when it comes to making politics, government and society more open, participatory and deliberative.
We were formed by people working at the cutting edge of new participatory practices and, with over fourteen years under our belt, we have set a new strategy to think big and aim high for democratic renewal in the UK.
What we need is a trustee with financial skills to act as Treasurer to help us turn money into democracy.
You can learn more about our work and our small team on: involve.org.uk
Involve works as a team and we need a trustee with financial acumen to support our small Board and staff team.
OK, so it is not easy. We raise money from a variety of sources and are well regarded for the work we do. But as a small charity we have limited reserves and we operate in a pretty uncertain financial environment.
We have had two wonderful Treasurers over the life of the charity and now we are looking for a third.
We are looking for someone who knows accounting and financial management well enough to oversee what we do in terms of budgets, accounts and financial statements. But we are also hoping for someone who is entrepreneurial and keen to be part of a team trying to change democracy for the better. It is going to be a bit of a journey, so we are looking for someone who can make a commitment, when they get to know us, and help us operate effectively as we try new things.
If you know charities, and charity accounts, so much the better.
Our Board meets on a quarterly basis in London and you would lead the work of the trustees on finance, accounts and compliance. We have operated with an Audit and Finance subcommittee, so that you have other trustees alongside you, but we are a small team and it will be up to you to guide us how best you can fulfil the role of Treasurer.
We would want you to look over our financial performance on a regular basis, working with the staff team to guide them. Our staff team are brilliant on democracy, great at raising project funds but they are not finance experts, so come to us with an eye to help us further develop our systems and our capability. Test us on occasion to make sure we are doing it right.
This is an unpaid position, although travel expenses are covered.
To apply, please send us a short note saying why you would be interested in and great for this role, to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 1st September. Please mark your email subject as “Treasurer application”, which just helps us on sorting.
If we want to explore this further with you, we’ll do it in a meeting with the Chair of the Board, Ed Mayo and Involve’s Director, Tim Hughes. Rest assured we will be fair and open about how we select people for this role.
Finally, for any further information, or for an informal discussion about the role, please contact Tim Hughes, Director: email@example.com
