Get help to do it

It takes a significant level of experience and expertise to deliver these sorts of processes. But you don’t have to deliver them on your own. You should think about how you can use experts — internally or externally — to plan, deliver and evaluate your process.

You can seek out training, support with strategy development, shadowing opportunities or mentoring from a number of expert organisations. This is so you have the confidence, knowledge, and skills to do this work well. There are lots of tools out there to support you too, such as checklists, guidance documents and standards. There are many expert organisations — both non-profits and consultancy firms — who are used to doing this as their bread and butter. You can take a learning-by-doing approach by working in collaboration with one of these organisations. Remember that some of the essentials of delivery are: evaluation and learning; sharing outcomes publicly and transparently; and closing the feedback loop with participants and partners so they know what has happened as a result of your process (or not), and why.
